Make your own artistic creation inspired by what “living well to the end of life” means to you.

INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 1

Using the materials you have at home, create a piece of art. Take a photo, write some song lyrics or a poem, make a collage or sculpture, paint a picture, or draw a cartoon. The art can be in any medium you like, or can combine media if you prefer.

STEP 2

Take a photograph of your creation. Or, if you’ve written a poem or short text, you can simply save your document so it’s ready to upload. The same goes for a sound or video file if you record your song, or make a video. We are happy to accept sound and video files as well. (Here are the file types we accept: .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .heic, .tiff, .mov, .mpeg-4, .mp4, .pdf, .doc)

STEP 3

Upload your photo/PDF document/sound or video file to this space. (It will take a couple of hours before it will be posted live.) Make sure to include your name, where you’re from, and the title of your piece. You can also share your work on social media, (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) and tag us using the hashtags #artmakingspace and #inthereouthere.

STEP 4

Write an “artist statement” to accompany your piece if you like. This is a short few sentences or paragraph explaining what the art means to you, what inspired it, why it was fun to do, etc. Basically, this can be whatever you want to tell us about the experience.

STEP 5

Lastly, check out our Community Gallery to see your work online, and enjoy what others have contributed to this interactive fun. We are so grateful you’re getting involved! Thank you for being part of the fun!

THE NEW DEMENTIANS

by Edmond Kin-Ming Hui, from Burnaby, BC.

Artist Statement: The main purpose of writing this poem was to let as many people know about the New Dementians choir. I am glad to be part of the choir and want others to feel the positiveness of it!

COVID JINGLE

By Natasha Damiano, from Richmond B.C.

Artist Statement: Carolling with friends was a big part of my holiday tradition before the pandemic. One night I was feeling frustrated by the news, so I decided to write this song. Jingle Bells as a form and melody to work from brought in the joy I wanted to attach to a serious message. Wishing everyone a safe and Covid-free holiday.

FOR MOM

by Heather Neale Furneaux from Victoria B.C.

Artist Statement: Living well, for me, is all about expressing gratitude and love. To family and friends, and even to strangers who smile as they walk by, let us into their lane while driving, or take the extra moment to say something kind. This photo of all mom's grandchildren was a collaborative project we did last year to show her how much we love and appreciate her for all that she does, and all that she is to us. We love looking back on it now, as the kids get bigger, and remembering the fun we had in putting it together.

DEANO WITH BIRDS

by Guy Maddin from Winnipeg, Manitoba

Artist Statement: Dean lived life on his own terms and spread a lot of love everywhere he was heard or seen, to millions, and he did what he loved till the very end.
